Fender American Original ’60s Stratocaster Mod Shop Loaded Pickguard – Custom Shop Fat ’50s Pickups – Reclaimed

Bring a premium Fender factory electronics package to your next Strat build with this reclaimed American Original ’60s Stratocaster loaded pickguard assembly.

Originally produced as a Fender factory assembly and marked “PG ASSY AM OR 60S STRAT MOD,” this guard features a set of Fender Custom Shop Fat ’50s Stratocaster pickups in place of the Pure Vintage ’65 pickups normally associated with the American Original ’60s Strat.

The Fat ’50s set takes the classic Stratocaster sound and gives it a little more muscle, with full lows, clear highs, plenty of dynamic response, and the unmistakable sparkle and articulation that make a great Strat so versatile. Alnico 5 magnets, Formvar magnet wire, fiber bobbins, vintage-style cloth leads, and a reverse-wound/reverse-polarity middle pickup keep the construction rooted firmly in classic Fender territory while providing hum-canceling operation in positions 2 and 4.

We measured the pickups in this assembly at 6.44kΩ bridge, 6.38kΩ middle, and 6.27kΩ neck — exceptionally close to Fender’s published specifications for the Custom Shop Fat ’50s set.

The pickups remain installed in the complete Fender pickguard assembly with the original-style 5-way switch, three 250k controls, shielding plate, tone capacitor, wiring, knobs, and aged-white plastics. That makes this an especially convenient choice for a restoration, upgrade, or custom Strat build: much of the wiring work has already been done at the factory.
